Dental Implants from €1500 at Pearl Dental and Beauty, Dublin 2

Dental implants at Pearl Dental, Dublin 2 are more affordable than ever, with fees from €1500 for multiple units. And these are Ankylos implants, one of the leading implant manufacturers in Europe, not mini-implants or obscure cheaper implant types. The fee for a standard dental implant at Pearl Dental includes everything- assessment, surgery stage, restoration and review visits. There are no hidden fees to surprise or disapoint, and we pride ourselves on our committment to service and customer satisfaction. Please note that a definite quote can only be provided after assessment, as there are many factors that influence the treatment plan, and therefore the cost, of dental implants.

A dental implant is generally the most complete and effective method of replacing a missing tooth, and is a remarkably civilised procedure, generally requiring no time away from work, (except the treatment appointments), usually involves little or no pain, and is now an incredibly reliable procedure in the hands of a competent and experienced dentist who is prepared to take the necessary time and care to ensure success. Dental implants are not a procedure to be undertaken during a weeks holiday to foreign climes, as the planning, consent and undertaking of such procedures requires more than a cursory visit, and dental implants that go wrong often require immediate intervention, which can be much more difficult to access if the dentist is 3 hours away on a plane!

Many successful and competent dentists carry out dental implant procedures in other countries, but if they tell you that you only need a weeks visit, move on to the more conscientious dentist who accepts the fact that implants need careful planning, careful explanation and consent, and a high level of technical skill to be successful. Wherever you decide that your implants will be carried out, ensure that the dentist is expecting at least 5 or 6 visits from initial assessment to final restoration, and ensure that they give a warranty of at least 5 years on all the work, with no further cost to be incurred by you if anything goes wrong.

Here at Pearl Dental, Dublin 2, we guarantee all of our dental implants, fixtures and crowns for a minimum of 5 years (subject to certain criteria), and don’t expect you to pay for anything should there be a failure in that timeframe.

Finally, be aware that dental implants require excellent maintenance regimes, both by you, and your dentist. Here at Pearl Dental, we advise all of our dental implant patients to see our hygienist, Joann, on a regular basis to ensure that the implant is maintained impeccably, along with the rest of the teeth, and to ensure that the patient’s oral hygiene is optimised to maximise gum health.

Dental Hygienist Services at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

A Dental Hygienist visit keeps teeth in tip-top shape

Probably the most undervalued and abused member of the dental team, both by dentists and patients, Dental Hygienists have a hard life, as many dentists use them as a depository for all the patients and work they don’t want themselves, and many patients don’t quite understand their role when they’re sent to see them.

In our world here at Pearl Dental, Dublin 2, our hygienist, Joann, is considered a vital part of our dental team, and helps maintain optimum oral health for our patients, as well as ensuring that complex restorations are cleaned and maintained as they should be, for maximum lifespan. One of the most important tasks that a dental hygienist undertakes is the treatment of gum disease and the maintenance of the gum health thereafter. If you have bleeding gums, or find that your dentist spends only a couple of minutes cleaning your teeth at your check-up visit, it’s probably time to see the hygienist to find out what a properly clean mouth feeels like.

That smile needs care. Your hygienist is the ideal person to provide it.

If you want a clean, healthy mouth, perfect oral hygiene, and immaculately kissable breath, a hygienist should become one of your best friends, as she will be able to advise you on the most appropriate oral hygiene techniques for your mouth, will clean your teeth more diligently, and more thoroughly than the majority of dentists, and should take a personal interest in you becoming a paragon of oral health. She is generally able to treat the majority of cases of gum disease, and you can see her as often as you wish to maintain that perfect smile, without having to see the dentist every time.

Also, check this post for more information on gum disease:

If you get into knots with floss, drink mouthwash as an aperitif, and use interdental brushes to clean your ears, you need a visit to the hygienist ASAP!

Visit the hygienist to learn the best hygiene techniques for your mouth

Our hygienist, Joann, is available Wednesdays and Fridays in our studio on Nassau Street, and will gently, but thoroughly, clean and polish your mouth, and coax you into better oral hygiene habits. She is also appreciated by us dentists too, as she can clean a mouth better than any of us are able!

Root Canal Treatment at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

Root canal treatment has long inspired fear and dread in all who hear the words, but here at Pearl Dental, Dubin 2, we don’t believe it should be that way. Prices for RCT start from €450 for simple, routine, single rooted teeth, and reach around €850 for the most complex multi-rooted back teeth. These fees are tax deductable at 20%, and can also be reduced if you are qualified under your PRSI contributions.

All of our dentists are trained in the latest techniques:

  • for anaesthesia before root canal treatment
  • for effective isolation of the tooth during root canal treatment, to ensure optimum sterilisation of the root canals
  • for efficient and rapid cleaning of the root canals
  • in effective methods of sealing the canals afterwards.

The procedure is quite time consuming, as effective sterilising of root canals takes patience, care and advanced techniques, but the procedure should be ENTIRELY painless, should only need to be undertaken once, assuming that optimum techniques are used, and enables an otherwise doomed tooth to be saved for the longterm.

Root canal treatment is not cheap, due to the time and materials used to undertake the procedure effectively, and if you do require a root canal treatment, use this checklist to see if your dentist is anywhere near up to speed. Remember, a failed root treatment can often lead to loss of the tooth, so you want to ensure that the chances of success are maximised, as follows:

  1. Rubber dam (see other posts on this site for white fillings, ( which shows photos of a rubber dam in place). This is essential in ensuring a sterile environment, and eliminating any leakage of chemicals into the mouth during the procedure.
  2. Magnification. Almost every specialist in root canal therapy will insist that root canal treatment can never be undertaken effectively without magnification to enable maximum visualisation of the root canal system. This is imperative in ensuring that every canal is located and cleaned effectively. We regularly find ourselves undertaking retreatment of a tooth that has previously been root treated elsewhere due to the fact that a canal had been missed. Retreatment is expensive, and you don’t want the job done twice!
  3. Nickel Titanium Files. All of the most recent developments in RCT revolve around the use of these types of specialist files, which make for faster and more accurate cleaning of the canals.
  4. Thermal Filling Materials. It is generally accepted that thermally packed fillers are the most effective method of sealing root canals.
  5. Tooth Seal after RCT. For almost all back teeth, it is recommended that a crown be placed after RCT to strengthen and protect the tooth, which can become brittle after RCT. Your dentist should advise you of this before the procedure begins, as the crown may be more expensive than the RCT, and you should be aware of all the costs before you begin.

The basic procedure for RCT can be found below, and for more information, see our main site www.pearltreatments.ie, call us on 01 679 0625, or e-mail us at reception@pearltreatments.ie.

Tooth decay. Are you at risk of cavities?

Tooth decay is a preventable disease, and much easier to prevent than to treat afterwards. Many factors affect your susceptibilty to tooth decay, also called tooth caries, tooth rot, and tooth cavities. The internet has a wealth of information related to tooth decay, and some of our own wisdom on this issue can be found elsewhere in this blog, but the link below has good ideas on how to assess and minimise your risk of tooth decay:

If tooth decay is an issue that has you concerned, or if you need your teeth assessed to ensure that all is sound, give us a call on 01 679 0625, or check our main site for mre information: www.pearltreatments.ie.

Before and After 4- White fillings in back teeth

Before you rush to your dentist to have all your silver/ black fillings replaced, ensure that the dentist is suitably experienced to undertake the procedure, and is prepared to spend the time required to place white fillings correctly. Poorly placed white fillings fail very quickly.

Your checklist should include:

  1. Rubber dam (see the pictures below- the green sheet over the teeth keeps the teeth dry and sterile. White fillings don’t like fluids in the area when they are being placed.) Most dentists will use rubber dam as standard, but if your dentist doesn’t, ask why.
  2. Ensure that food is not packing between the teeth after a white filling is placed. It can be difficult to correctly close the contact between 2 teeth when using white fillings, and if food repeatedly lodges between the teeth, cavities will follow.
  3. Time. White fillings in back teeth cannot be done quickly, and often require an hour or more to place correctly.
  4. Previous examples of work. If we’re proud of our work, we have no problem showing it off! Ask to see photos of previous fillings by your dentist, and look to see if they look like teeth, or mashed potato in a tooth! If we take pride in our fillings, we try to make them as tooth-like as possible.
  5. Warranty. Here at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, we guarantee all of our fillings for 12 months, unless specifically indicated otherwise. This gives time to ensure that the fit and finish of the filling is stable for the longterm.

Check this before you start teeth whitening/ bleaching

Here at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon we obviously offer tooth bleaching/ whitening as one of our services, and offer different methods of tooth whitening as appropriate for each case.

‘Laser’, Zoom or Britesmile bleaching

Are the dominant buzzwords in the public domain at present, and offer tooth whitening in around 60- 90 minutes.

Tray bleaching

Involves the use of custom fitted trays to apply the bleach to the teeth, with these being worn on a nightly basis for around 2-3 weeks.

Deep bleaching

Is a more complex bleaching system, but is very effective if undertaken correctly, and offers outstanding results. This technique is considerably more expensive than the standard bleaching systems.

To ensure that your tooth whitening experience is comfortable, effective, and safe:

  • Never allow a non-dental professional to bleach your teeth. This has been researched by the EU, and the most recent directive advised that tooth bleaching/ whitening should ONLY be undertaken by dental professionals to ensure the safety of the procedure. TOOTH BLEACHING CAN BE DANGEROUS IF NOT CARRIED OUT CORRECTLY, AND WITH APPROVED AND RESEARCHED PRODUCTS.
  • Ensure that your dental check-up is up to date, and that your dentist has checked the condition of your gums.
  • Check the teeth in your smile line for old fillings, veneers, crowns and bridges, as these will not change colour with tooth whitening/ bleaching, and the cost to replace these can be far more than the bleaching itself. Consider a full smile design consult if you have several teeth that will require work after whitening, and this will ensure that you are fully aware of ALL the costs before you begin.
  • If you’re planning to go for one of the 1 hour bleaching systems, ensure that CUSTOM MADE TRAYS are included in the cost, as the colour of the teeth after this type of bleaching is NOT stable, and WILL fade back to some degree. The trays allow for ‘topping-up’ of the bleaching process at home which helps stabilise the colour.
  • NEVER try bleaching kits purchased online for ridiculously cheap prices. Some of these have been shown to be acidic formulations, which is bad, bad news for teeth. Only ever use approved bleaching systems.
  • Don’t be fooled by the advertising. ‘Laser’ bleaching works, but it does not give a brighter colour than home tray bleaching; it can be very sensitive (in our experience, and that of many of my colleagues, approximately 75% of you will experience some pain with ‘Laser’ bleaching, with this being temporary, but potentially quite uncomfortable- see quote at end of this post), you need trays afterwards if you want the best colour, and it takes at least 90 minutes to do it properly. Any dentist or clinic telling you differently should be avoided. Deep bleaching is the only technique that may enhance the colour beyond that of standard tray bleaching.
  • Enjoy your new smile! Follow the guidelines above, and tooth bleaching is one of the safest and most effective ways of improving your smile, so there is now no excuse for less than ideal Pearlys!

And to finish, here is a quote from one of the online forums regarding bleaching. Make sure that the dentist you see for your bleaching knows what he/ she is doing, and how to deal with pain if it arises.

Hi..my son had the laser teeth whitening treatment in Dublin city 3 weeks ago and had such a bad reaction (he thought he was going to pass out with the pain) he was sent home in a taxi having had painkillers administered. Be careful..it is obviously not for everyone. He had had a prior consultation and was told he was the perfect candidate i.e.no receeding gums and aged only 22.Apparently his reaction was “one in a million”.

Exclusive standard veneers at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, Dublin 2

Here at Pearl Dental Practice and Beauty Salon, we pride ourselves on the standard of our work, and back this up with a 5 year full coverage warranty on all our crowns, veneers, implants, and bridges. However, in some cases, the client is more demanding in terms of the final finish for their smile, and it is for cases such as these that we recommend our exclusive standard laboratory work. The procedure in the surgery is unchanged, as we always work to the highest standards, but the laboratory process, which involves the fabrication of the veneers, crowns etc, can be customised to achieve maximum aesthetics. The work will not last longer, or fit better, as we always aim for the ideal in these respects, but the time spent by the laboratory technician will be considerably longer, and the attention to minor details more intense.

For most people, such minor details are not noticeable, but for some, they are what create the perfect smile, and are therefore worth every cent of the additional cost involved.

Examples of some of our standard veneer cases can be found under the post before-and-after-2-veneers

An example of an exclusive case is shown below, with the first image of the old veneers after the teeth were whitened, and the second image is of the 6 new veneers after fitting. Note the extraordinarily natural appearance of the veneers, which are all but impossible to distinguish from the natural teeth.
