As today is the 1st of December, it will get many of us thinking about the perfect Christmas gift for a family member, spouse or loved one. Why not give a gift that keeps on giving? Improved confidence, an aesthetically pleasing smile and better mouth functionality through teeth straightening.
Pearl Dental have been treating patients for several years now, providing them with cosmetic orthodontics. This offers patients complete treatment in under 6 months and for a price lower than many people expect. We use two main systems on our patients Cfast and Fastbraces, both provide excellent results and in which our dentists have received comprehensive training.
Our two teeth straightening systems can be suitable for people of all ages, and in general provide a more patient sensitive approach than traditional wire and bracket orthodontics. The results we have achieved over the years speak for themselves, and are testament to our commitment to excellence and extensive experience.
For a limited time only we are offering a FREE consultation to our patients, or their family and friends to see if Fastbraces of Cfast is the right choice to enhance your smile. Book your consultation now by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone: 01 6790625.
Patients always ask what is the right type of toothbrush for me? In most cases the answer is, whatever one you will use regularly to maintain your oral health. There are a few factors to take into consideration when making the decision on the type of tooth brush that suits you:
Although there are some inexpensive electric toothbrushes available, in most cases they cost much more than a regular manual disposable toothbrush. In addition to the initial outlay there is the additional expense of replacing the removable heads when they wear out. Saying that, if an electric toothbrush keeps your teeth clean and encourages you to brush, then perhaps the bigger initial expense will be offset by the reduction in visits to you local dentist.
There is a quite a wide variety of toothbrush sizes in supermarkets and local shops, so which one do you choose.. as brushing your teeth is an individual and personal thing it goes back to whatever you are comfortable with and is the most effective. First of all the toothbrush should sit comfortably in your hand, if you brush twice a day the last thing you want is for that to be an uncomfortable experience. Secondly, the head of the toothbrush should fit easily in your mouth and allow you to reach all of the main surfaces of your teeth, including your molars.
In most shops you are usually given the option to select soft, medium or hard bristles for either a manual or electric toothbrush. Soft bristles are the best option for most people, but it very much depends on the strength of your teeth and gums, and how firmly you brush. Patients need to be careful that their choice of brush does not damage gums, the tooth enamel or root surface.
Finally and most importantly your choice of toothbrush depends on whatever you like the best, and one that you will use at least twice a day, every day.
If you need any more advice or recommendations for the right way to maintain your oral health or the right type of toothbrush for you, talk to our dentist on your next visit.
What is Tooth Decay?
Tooth Decay, Caries or a cavity are a bacterial infection that causes the destruction of your tooth enamel, which is the hard outer layer of your teeth. The last time you visited the dentist he more than likely spoke about plaque which is a substance that is constantly forming on your teeth. Plaque contains bacteria that feed on the sugars in the food you eat. When the bacteria feed, they make acids and attack the teeth for 20 minutes or more after you eat. Over time, these acids destroy tooth enamel, causing tooth decay.
Symptoms of Tooth Decay
– Dark coloured spots or shading on your teeth
– Swelling of your gums
– A toothache
– Bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth
How to avoid Tooth Decay
The most straightforward way to prevent tooth decay is to floss and brush your teeth daily, and make sure you visit your dentist regularly. Other ways to avoid it include using fluoride toothpaste, reducing your intake of sugar and carbohydrates, and by not smoking.
If you are concerned that you might have tooth decay, don’t delay, contact our reception today and come and see our friendly dentist email@example.com or phone 01 6790625

What are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants are a synthetic root, made of titanium and used to anchor replacement teeth. They give you a completely functional new tooth allowing you to chew, speak and smile confidently. The Implant consists of three parts, which all perform a unique function:
The Implant – This is the titanium piece placed in the jawbone, which will secure your new tooth/ teeth
The Abutment – Made of porcelain, gold or titanium, this connects The Implant and Restoration/ Crown
The Restoration/ The Crown – This can be attached directly to The Implant or The Abutment and is the part that looks like a tooth. Your dentist will endeavour to match the colour of this new tooth to the others in your mouth to ensure your smile is seamless.
Benefits of Dental Implants
– They are a long term solution for missing teeth or filling gaps in your smile
– Enjoy your favourite foods and eat them with confidence
– Chew, bite and speak without worrying about moving dentures
– Maintain the natural appearance of your face and smile
– Proven and reliable method of filling gaps and replacing teeth
Are Dental Implants the right choice for me?
If you are missing one or more teeth and have a healthy jawbone, then chances are you a good candidate for dental implants. We recommend that any of our patients considering dental implants undergo a comprehensive consultation with one of our dentists, who can then assess your case and explain the treatment to you. Book your consultation today by contacting email@example.com or by phone on 01 6790625
Generally speaking we ask our patients to visit the practice every 6 months for a check-up, but like most things it depends very much on the individual case, and the health of the patients teeth and gums. During a Pearl Dental check-up our dentist will carry out the following:
– Assess the overall health and condition of your teeth
– Check for the build up of plaque
– Use X-rays to look inside, in-between and underneath your teeth for signs of infection or disease
– Make sure that your previous dental work (Fillings, Crown & Bridge work) is healthy and robust
– Talk to you about your diet, smoking and alcohol use and how it can stain teeth
– Advise you on the best teeth cleaning habits and frequency
– Enquire about your dental health and suggest some cosmetic treatments to improve your smile
After a check-up your dentist will advise you of a date which they feel is the best time to see you again, to keep your mouth healthy and prevent future dental problems. As they say ‘Prevention is better than cure’ and that is certainly what we strive to achieve with the patients of our practice.
If you are experiencing any dental problems, or you feel that you would benefit from a check-up in Pearl Dental please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01 6790625.
Given that Halloween is just around the corner we thought it would be interesting to discuss the large consumption of sugary treats coming up in 2 weeks and how to take care of your teeth. We have children of our own and enjoy Halloween as much as everyone else, but suggest the following tips and advice:
Everything in moderation
If your child consumes one sugary treat during a regular day, just because its Halloween does not mean that a whole evening consuming treats is a good idea.
Suggestion: When your child returns from collecting treats, ask them to pick 3/4 things from their stash to eat, and the rest can be consumed at another time.
Avoid hard lollies and chewy sweets
Hard lollies that a person keeps in their mouth for a long period of time, cause the most damage to teeth. The fact that the sugar is consistently coming off the product and attacking teeth makes them a treat to avoid. Additionally, I can’t tell you the amount of times a patient has come into the practice where a filling, or a piece of tooth has actually come off due to a sticky chewy sweet.
Suggestion: Remove some of these types of treats from your child’s stash to reduce the damage to teeth.
Recycle some treats
In many cases a number of trips are made out to visit houses in the neighbourhood to collect treats, and in most cases people do not have a limitless quantity of treats to distribute.
Suggestion: Give back out some of the treats your kids receive. This reduces their sugary intake and makes you the most popular house in the local area.
Make sure to floss and brush before bed
Its probably one of the most important evenings to ensure you floss and brush your teeth properly before bed.
Happy Halloween from all the team here in Pearl Dental. If you have any dental problems or would like to discuss your dental health, please do not hesitate to contact us here on 01 6790625 or email: email@example.com
Are you self-conscious about your smile? Would you like to do something about your crooked or misaligned teeth?
Fastbraces could be the solution for you!
While teeth straightening through traditional orthodontics methods has been around for many years, more recently this whole area of the dental industry is going through a transformation, providing patients with more options than ever. At Pearl Dental we offer a fast, safe and affordable way to straighten your teeth called Fastbraces®, provided by your general dentist, in less time than traditional metal braces.
The Fastbraces® Technology patented bracket design uses unique, triangular shaped braces that allow for the use of just one super-elastic nickel-titanium wire during the treatment process. This brace technology works on an entirely different mechanical principle altogether. Historically, old braces would move the crown of the tooth in the first year, and the root of the tooth in the second year. The Fastbraces® Technology helps move the crown and root of the teeth at the same time, from the beginning of the treatment.
Having been around for over 20 years, thousands of consecutively treated patients and university research have shown that Fastbraces® are not only safe but offer many additional benefits. Patients can experience less discomfort and there are no more risks with Fastbraces® than those associated with traditional braces. Additionally, the fact that the braces are on for less time means that there is possibly less chance of tooth decay due to improper oral hygiene.
Treatment with Fastbraces® Technology can improve the patient’s lifestyle because treatment typically takes just a few visits to the dental practice. Less clinic visits mean less money spent, less journeys getting to and from the dental practice and less time off school or work. Another great benefit is the reduction of retainer usage. When the braces come off one needs to wear the retainers only 15 minutes a day in the shower, cleverly described as Fastbraces® “Tooth Shampoo”.
If you would like to know more about the Fastbraces® treatments we provide please do not hesitate to contact reception on 01 6790625 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org to book your free Fastbraces® assessment with one of our trained specialists.
With the growing popularity of dental bleaching over the last number of years, and the number of outlets offering teeth whitening services, patients could be forgiven for getting confused about this dental treatment. Teeth whitening is quick, easy and inexpensive and is a great way to improve your smile. At Pearl Dental we offer our patients 3 options, provided by qualified dental professionals:
Treatment One: Home Bleaching
This is the most reliable, simple and least sensitive of all the bleaching options, and is still the option of choice for those that want cheap and easily maintained results, and are happy to take the time required.
You will have impressions (moulds) taken of your teeth, and will return a week later for fitting of customised bleaching trays specific to your mouth. You will then be shown how to use the trays with the bleaching agent supplied. You will be required to wear the trays at night-time for the following 2-4 weeks to whiten the teeth effectively. The trays can be used thereafter to top up the whitening effect.
Treatment Two: The Power of Whitening
This is for people who want a deep whitening treatment, to be undertaken in the Salon by a qualified dental professional, and who do not want to use home trays as a follow up. You will have your teeth laser whitened using the latest Zoom tooth whitening equipment and methods for the full recommended treatment time. You will need approximately 90 minutes for the above appointment.
Treatment three: The Complete Whitening Package
This is for people who want an excellent tooth whitening result and are prepared to put in some work to get it. Using a combination of techniques to whiten your teeth has been proven to have the strongest and longest lasting results.
You will then have your teeth laser whitened using the latest Zoom tooth whitening equipment and methods. You will need a total of approximately 1.5 – 2 hours for the above appointment. You will also receive the home bleaching kit for stabilisation and maintenance of the teeth whiteness.
If you would like to learn more about the dental bleaching service we provide please do not hesitate to contact reception on 01 6790625 or email email@example.com
